2200 Machine Type And Serial Number Are Invalid Lenovo Laptops
Hi Guys, Welcome to 'TeCh & LiFe BlOgS by M-R'. You know, you feel Happy Every Time, If you Trust.
I have big problem with my laptop. Laptop is ThinkPad EDGE 14 NVS52CD AMD Athlon II X2 P340 2.2GHz 2048MB 500GB 14.0' LED WXGA. Problem is: (afer bios check ok) this is a message: WARNING 2200: Machine Type and Serial Number are invalid. 2201: Machine UUID is invalid. Windows 7 crashes. I have tried to reinstal Windows but without success. It always freezes.
When I press CTRL+ALT+DEL lenovo turns off (but it should reset). One service said that EEPROM of BIOS is dead and I should change entire motherboard. I have tried with Lenovo Maintence Tool (bootable usb stick) to enter new serial number but it doesn't work.
I can't read serial number from my computer or even enter the new one. LMT says memory overflow problem when I try to enter new serial. Invalid checksum when I try to read any of serial numbers. Can someone help me? Buy new laptop or try to change bios chip?
For IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad laptop enthusiasts. Blog posts are encouraged. If your post does not appear in the queue, it's because of the stupid spam filter. Use the link to 'message the moderators' below to tell them. Tips: • When buying a used ThinkPad, remember to check that the BIOS is not locked with a supervisor's password and that Computrace is not enabled and activated. • When buying a new ThinkPad, consider taking the IPS screen option if possible, as it doesn't cost much. Not only will it have better brightness, colour, contrast and viewing angles - you will most probably more than make up the investment when selling it.
Corporate bulk purchasers don't usually go for it. () • The only tools you need for servicing a ThinkPad are a set of small screwdrivers and a nylon spudger (for taking the screen and keyboard bezels off), and possibly a pair of tweezers. A can of compressed air may be useful too, and a bottle of isopropyl alcohol and cotton buds are good for cleaning, but not on the screen. This is what I'm shown for about 3 sec before normal boot starts. It's one big annoyance on my otherwise perfect X230. Google tells you need to enter your serial number manually using Lenovo's Hardware Maintenance Diskette tool which they don't distribute to consumers. I though got my hands on the latest version 1.89 through different forums. It does allow you to create a USB FDD to boot from. I created USB but it doesn't boot.
When I create bootable USB HDD instead with NetBootin it does boot and tool fires up. But it doesn't perform it's function because its expecting an FDD. Anyone else having faced this error?
