Houston Townhurst Drivers License Office
– Stood outside for 30minutes in 44 degree cold. Once inside, it took about 20 minutes to get through the registration desk. Then, you get to sit down and wait for your number to be called. Bathrooms and water fountains are easily available. About an hour or so later, my number was called and it took about 5 minutes to renew my license. The staff (obviously overworked due to budget constraints) was actually friendly and helpful.
Although noone 'enjoys' going to DPS office, the entire experience was actually very smooth. This was entirely different than my last experience. Thank you all for improving your process and staff friendliness. If you plan to visit this office, do not let the full parking lot and lines outside the door get you down. All things considered, they run a fairly efficient office. Plan to spend a little more than two hours to get through the whole process. I agree with 'Happy citizen' that this is the best DPS office in Houston.
The slowest DPS office, according to figures from the Texas Department of Public Safety, is the Houston Townhurst location at 1601 Townhurst Drive. The average wait time, as of June, 60 minutes, and that's just the average, you could wait longer. The next slowest is The Gessner Mega Center 12220 South Gessner in Southwest Houston.
Best DPS in Houston – This is the BEST DPS office in Houston. They provide great customer service, and are professional, courteous, and friendly. I took my son here for his road test and even though it was packed, we were out of there in about 1 hour, without any hassle. They are very organized and efficient.
Unlike the other DPS offices, the manager at this location is active, helping out and making sure things are running smoothly. I give this DPS office an A+. All personnel were very polite and moved quickly; they answered my questions in a friendly and polite manner. The clerk who took my son for the road test was polite and respectful and did not intimidate him like the one at another DPS office that we visited. I would like to add that I called all DPS offices in Harris county to ask a question, and this office was the only only one that picked up the phone and when they did, they took the time to answer my questions. DPS Should be closed down – This office is full of incompetent employees. They give you the wrong information and send you away after waiting in line for hours.
You find out that what they told you is wrong and you come back to try again. They argue with you and when the incompetent employee looks at the DPS officer he pulls you out of line and says that if you don't like the way they do business there then go to one of the other offices. He even said that we should 'step outside' Don't try to call they don't answer their phones. These civil servents should all be fired. The whole organization should be investigated. It is ridiculous that you have to stand in line for hours and get treated so rudely by employees who can tell you that if you don't like it, go somewhere else. What arrogance!
